    Kedarnath Temple

    Kedarnath Temple is an magnificent Hindu Temple dedicated to lord shiva, located in laps of the Garhwal Himalayan range in the state of Uttarakhand, India.

    Kedar is another name of lord Shiva, known as the protector and the destroyer. Kedarnath Temple is situated at an astonishing height of 3584 meters above sea level near the source of Mandakini River and it is 85 feet high, 187 feet long and 80 feet wide. Its walls are 12 feet thick and worked from incredibly solid stones and stands on a six-foot height.

    Kedarnath Temple is encircled by mountains from three sides. On one side is the 22,000 feet high Kedarnath while Kharchkund, which is 21,600 feet high, is on the opposite side and on the third side is the 22,700 feet Bharatkund. As per the legend the territory additionally has five rivers namely Mandakini, Madhuganga, Chirganga, Saraswati and Swarnadari yet some of them are legendary.

    As per the Garhwal Vikas Nigam the Kedarnath temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya in the eight century and so existed when the Little Ice Age of 1300-1900 AD came.

    Because of extraordinary climate conditions, every year the Kedarnath temple will be open to the general public only between the months of April and November.

    Temple Timing

    The Temple stays open every day between 04:00 am to 09:00 pm. In betweeen there will break in darshan between 03:00 pm to 05:00 pm. Kedarnath Temple will be open only for Six months in a year, because of extreme climate conditions. Ideal Time to visit: May and June.

    • By Air. The closest domestic airport terminal is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is around 239 km from Kedarnath and operates daily flights to Delhi.
    • Via Train. The closest railway station is at Rishikesh which is 221 km away.
    • By Road. Frequent buses available to Kedarnath, from Rishikesh 216 km and from Kotdwar 121 KM.
