Athi Varadhar Temple
The idol of Lord Athi Varadar will be kept on display at Varadharaja Perumal Temple or Devarajaswamy temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in the holy city of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India.
The 10-foot idol of Lord Athi Varadar (made out of fig tree / Athi Tree) was kept underwater for past 40 years in temple tank. This deity will be brought to the surface for devotees to worship once every 40 years.
The last time Athi Varadar Moorthy was raised out of the water was on July 2, 1979, and before that in 1939.
For nearly 40 long years, the temple had no moorthies in the garbhagraha and no pooja was being performed in the temple.
